Wholesale Prices Drop Sharply in September
Wholesale prices fell 1.8 percent in September the steepest monthly drop in 25 years as meat eggs fruit vegetables and other foods declined. Farm product prices slid 6 percent in September the largest fall since February 1948 with processed foods and feeds down 6 percent after a record 13.4 percent jump in August. The report notes consumer prices may ease later as trends move from wholesale to store shelves.

Only two New Mexico firms expressed interest in buying refinery output near Layington as Southern Union Gas aims to source most production for out of state buyers. Four out of state companies will take the majority of output, with Phelps Dodge and Public Service Co of New Mexico among the limited local takers. The plant will refine naptha heating oil and other distillates, drawing much supply from state land royalties.

Testing 1-25 stretch after citizen claims defects
In Albuquerque a new section of Interstate 25 south of the Rio Grande is under test after a private citizen alleged deficient construction. Highway district engineer Tom Card said a full review may be needed. UNM student David Stivers reported missing reinforcing bars and test crews using Sandia devices found a section with bars every 10 inches, far short of requirements.

Fracas Ends With Arrest Of Two In Lovington Lounge
Two men involved in a lounge incident were arrested yesterday afternoon after a quarrel at the Cedar Lounge on Main Street. James E. Holmes pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm within the city and faces five days in county jail, plus charges of receiving stolen property. Omar Dubose also faces receiving stolen property charges and remains jailed on a $5,000 bond.
