Man shot in temple near McDonald ranch home
Felix Dorado, 29, was wounded in the right temple by a .22 caliber shot at close range near his McDonald area home. He was taken to Lea General Hospital Hobbs where Deputy Sheriff Les Villers said the injury is not serious. Dorado allegedly spoke freely but refuses to name an assailant as investigators press the case.

Anti Freeze Toilets Ordered for 1918 Court House Improvements
On January 1 1918 the court house was ordered to build outside toilets and a urinal at a cost of 20 dollars. Plumbing for three anti freeze toilets a three foot urinal and water pipes to a cesspool was set at 300 dollars with a 212 dollar cesspool. An anti freeze toilet in the second floor corridor for the jail was also ordered at 225 dollars.

Voters Attend First Local Election In Lovington
Lovington marked its first village election in 1917 with 66 votes cast for village officers. Mayor candidate W G MacArthur led with 65 votes, while J D Graham and Seth Alston received 65 and 64 votes respectively. Tom Bingham had one vote. Alston and Mrs Vosburg are long-time residents.
