Navy Berserk Sailor Surrenders After Six Hours On Bridge
On Treasure Island San Francisco Bay the sailor Jimmie Henderson held four hostages and killed one officer during a six hour siege aboard the Avade. Marines and Naval forces conducted the standoff. Henderson surrendered after his mother and chaplains intervened. Two ensigns wounded, one fatally, and a metalsmith struck. The incident followed a court martial sentence for theft.

Estimates by extension workers indicate about 60 percent of Lea County cotton has been replanted due to cool weather hail rain and other factors.
