The R and R Distributing Co. at 1102 So Main was broken into Monday night with over 400 dollars in merchandise and currency stolen. Lawrence Rice reported the break to police at 8 28 Tuesday. Entry used a removed air conditioner lid and a pipe slide. Cash, jewelry, and a bank bag were taken. a few items remain. Investigation continues. entry appeared through the rear door.

Buried With Boots Whisky Lost Then Found Again
Alexander Hicklin was reinterred 90 years after his burial when a street relocation moved his grave in Colorado. His wife, 96 year old Laura Halsey, placed a bottle of whisky in the new coffin though the original whisky was not there. The tale recalls Hicklin and his frontier welcome near Greenhorn Creek with his wife described as the daughter of former New Mexico Gov Charles Bent.

Lovington and Northern Lea County endured a good soaking as rain clouds lingered after a stand of showers yesterday afternoon. Gages in the northern county measured from 0.5 to 4 inches, the first substantial moisture in eight months.

Local Man to Be Graduated From West Point Academy
Bruce Lee Howard, son of Mr and Mrs J Elza Howard of Lovington, will graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point on June 3 and be commissioned a second lieutenant in the artillery with a bachelor of science degree. He participated in notable events including the Kennedy Inaugural and the MacArthur burial honor guard, and he joined in a Brazilian Independence celebration in Rio de Janeiro as a U.S. government representative. He also toured major U.S. military installations, trained in Germany last summer, earned football numerals, and engaged in mountaineering and language clubs while advancing as a platoon leader. After graduation he will attend Ranger and Airborne training at Fort Benning before active duty.
