At the May 25 1972 Lovington New Mexico City Commission meeting a proclamation commends Sgt Archie Cunningham and the Lovington Police Department for his actions in pursuing armed fugitives on May 11 1972. Cunningham disarmed and restrained three armed suspects during a deadly exchange without harm to himself bystanders or others. The proclamation cites professionalism courage and regard for public safety and orders it entered into permanent city minutes.
