Holiday weekend deaths and drownings reported nationwide
A young woman, Anita Degsee of Zuni, 19, died in a head on crash near Zuni. An oil truck driver, Robert Huff of Roswell, 32, died when his tractor trailer overturned southwest of Artesia. Two more drownings were reported at Elephant Butte and Ute lakes with multiple other injuries. State police noted at least 16 drownings in New Mexico so far this year.

Rep. Hoyt Pattison says only about 0.5 percent of veterinary medicines will face regulation under new New Mexico acts. Most drugs remain free for nonprescription sale, while cortisones and steroids require a veterinarian prescription and seller licensing. Scc Schedules Hearings On Motor Carrier Requests
The State Corporation Commission will hold six hearings in June on common motor carrier certificate requests. A Hobbs line 12 hearing covers proposed rate increases for oilfield haulers, represented by the New Mexico Motor Carriers Association and Oil Field Haulers Inc. of Austin Texas.
