A Lovington writer suggests two senior boys salvage a 40 000 pound obsolete printing press for scrap profits with adult supervision and offers to spearhead an Operation UFO publicity drive betting Lovington could become a UFO world center while noting local skepticism.
Lovington City Commission will meet in regular semi monthly session tonight at 7 oclock. Agenda includes minutes, bid openings on water pipe, letters from Municipal League Public Library Board and Judge Wasson, school board building use for summer recreation, tentative 1966 67 budget, and payment of bills.
Two accidents in past days caused extensive vehicle damage but few injuries. Bill W McCrory 34 of Lovington was cited for DWI and reckless driving after a single vehicle crash on South Main near Avenue R about 645 am Monday. A separate Sunday three car crash at South Main and Avenue J caused about 600 in damage to a 1966 Chevrolet driven by Ernest D Sanders 61 of Hobbs 350 to a 1962 Ford driven by Debbie Jo Wright 16 of Lovington and 25 to a 1966 Pontiac driven by Joyce Ann Alexander 16 of Lovington Sanders cited for red light violation Wright issued for no driver's license.

Roy R. Colborn 66 was found shot to death in his living room at 1318 Twentieth Street Eunice New Mexico. Police suspect a personal safety related shooting and the coroner has not ruled. A 22 caliber revolver was used. Mrs Colborn, an invalid, heard the shots but could not call for help until 6 am. Survivors include two sons and a daughter.
Air Force recruiter George Rhodes will be at the Lovington Courthouse basement Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. to provide information on enlistment opportunities. He usually visits on Wednesdays but will be in El Paso that day for his son's oath of enlistment. seniors considering June to September enlistment should meet him.
Navy recruiters announce the Seabees program allowing qualified construction workers to enlist in the Navy with advanced pay grades for a short period. Capt. Jimmie E. Savage, director of Navy recruiting for the Southwest, says the program helps draft eligible individuals fulfill their obligations in their chosen field. Local recruiters at Lea County Courthouse basement accept inquiries Mondays 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Lea County commissioners heard department heads outline operating needs for the 1966-67 fiscal year. Airport $152,300 including $71,650 for construction. Assessor $56,333.95. Clerk $63,901. Treasurer $33,337. Extension Service $23,050. Sheriff $177,360. Health, Fair, and Hospital requests also noted.
The hospital budget asks 1 787 305 dollars, Health department seeks 5 280 for a nurse and 600 for a supervising sanitarian. Howell questions another nurse now while Fair requests 3 581 39 capital plus 1 400 for a grounds manager for June to September. Commissioners review all requests including library and city asks from Lea County towns and New Mexico Junior College tax levy. A composite budget will be formed and another meeting planned soon.
One hundred fifty eight Lovington High School students received diplomas at Parnell Auditorium with School Board President Hobby Gann presenting. Of the graduates 148 were regular students and ten were night-class members. Superintendent Larry Crouse said about 70 percent plan to pursue college education. A more than capacity crowd attended the ceremony.
Lea County Sheriffs Posse schedules a Saturday trail ride near Lovington at 8 a.m. and will join Elks and local rodeo parades in Hobbs Lovington Carlsbad with events on June 2 and June 8. The group invites riders of all levels and plans publicity for upcoming rodeos while maintaining attendance from recent years.
Forecast calls for clear and cool tonight then warmer Wednesday with lows near 55 and a high around 90. Monday record shows 94 at 4:30 pm and 56 at 3:45 am, while nationwide highs reached 107 at Presidio Texas and 25 at Craig Colorado. Year to date precipitation in Lovington stands at 2.60 inches in 1966.
Two auction sales will be held at Lea County Courthouse Wednesday with first at 10 a.m. and second at 2 p.m. The sale covers 249 parcels of tax delinquent property. A list is posted in the county assessor and county treasurer offices.
