Neu tramist forces launch a counterattack on the Plain of Jars to ease Communist Pathet Lao pressure on a trapped armored regiment. Meo tribesmen seize two Chinese soldiers in northern Laos, first confirmed Chinese presence in the region.
A Lovington Antenna Company telecast on Able Cable Channel Six will air Tuesday May 26 at 7 p.m. The discussion panel includes Finis Heidel Hobby Gann Esta Lou Morgan Allen Church and Dr Louie P Clarke. The program explains the need organization governance and cost of a proposed Lea County junior college and invites questions during the telecast.
The Rev J Harold Cates pastor of First Methodist Church Lovington has been re appointed for another conference year. In four years 385 members joined the church and sanctuary debt is paid a new parsonage built and a new educational building underway. The Albuquerque annual conference took ownership of Bataan Memorial Hospital and may rename it The Methodist Bataan Memorial. Lovelace Clinic near the hospital is noted among world leading clinics. Jim Jameson was elected Lay Delegate to the annual conference and will serve on the Board of Lands in Home at Carlsbad and the New Mexico Camps Board.
Searchers recovered the bodies of former U S ambassador Delesseps Morrison his son and five others from a private plane wreck in a rock strewn Mexican mountainside after a rain drenched crash. Victims include Carolyn Vandergrift a Palm Beach divorcee two Houma Louisiana businessmen and the pilot. Salvage teams carried remains from the site.
A plane slammed into a mountain nose first, tearing apart the craft. Police initially estimated nine people aboard due to the violence of the impact. The aircraft had been reported missing at dawn after taking off Friday night from Corpus Christi toward Santa Clara Ranch.
A gas buildup explosion at Mike and Johnny's Mobil Service in Lovington leveled the station and damaged the La Fiesta Cafe and H H Laundry. Over 700 telephone subscribers lost service when a General Telephone feeder cable was severed. Johnny Eskew survived with burns. fire crews contained the blaze after three hours.
UPI reports strong U.S. naval units and about 2,000 Marines shifted toward Laos and South Vietnam amid rising tensions. Dean Rusk warned expansion of anti-Communist actions could occur, while reconnaissance flights pursue attacks on neutralist Laos.

Lovington High School prepares for Baccalaureate tonight at Pannell Auditorium with Dr. Donald C. Moyer of Eastern New Mexico University giving the commencement address titled The Difference That Counts. The 138 seniors will receive diplomas Monday night as the 8 p.m. ceremony features Pomp and Circumstance, invocation by Bob Lindley, music by the School Ensemble, and benediction by Carl Cain.
Late Saturday phone service to about 700 subscribers in southeast Lovington was restored after an explosion at a Second Street and Avenue D service station damaged a feeder and severed 1600 wires. Crews from Lovington and Hobbs worked through the night replacing cable and splicing the wires, with service largely back by 1 30 Saturday morning.
