Hailstorm Wipes Out Cotton and Damages Homes in Knowles Area
A severe hail storm struck the Knowles Humble City region Tuesday night, wiping out about 2500 acres of cotton and damaging homes and farm buildings. Hail measured up to 12 inches resting on fields with heavy rain and winds. Some farmers face replanting delays with limited insurance recoveries while rainfall varied across Lea County and eastern New Mexico.

Lovington High School will hold commencement tonight at 8 o'clock in Parnell Auditorium for 115 seniors. Dr. Kenneth H. Pannell will participate in diplomas and benediction by Charles Moore.

UPI reports federal appeals judge Elbert Tuttle issued an injunction barring Birmingham Alabama school authorities from expelling and suspending 1081 Negro students who cut class to join racial demonstrations. Red Cross Honors Nance for Life Saving Act
Nance John A Nance a Lovington school teacher and Boy Scout executive received the Certificate of Merit from the American National Red Cross for saving the life of neighbor Suzanne Choate from carbon monoxide fumes at 908 W Ave M Lovington on January 14 1963. He performed mouth to mouth resuscitation while police and fire units responded and Suzanne was revived with aid from a resuscitator later. The award marks the 10th such Red Cross life saving honor for New Mexico residents.
