Lesage declares war on FLQ after wave of bombings

Premier Jean Lesage convenes a summit of military police and judicial officials to unite against the FLQ terrorism. He urges press and public cooperation while withholding details of operations. Two Get Terms On Check Charge In Lovington

In district court two men pled guilty to uttering and publishing a false instrument and were sentenced to between one and five years in the state penitentiary. Jackie Brown of Lovington, 21, and Milton McClellan of El Paso, 24, passed a $20 check at B&J Drug Store.

Winda Boulden of 205 Commercial Street was charged with breaking and entering and being drunk when arrested Monday night by Lovington police. He was seen leaving the back door of B and B Cafe and the cafe front door screen torn. no theft was confirmed.

Two Charged After Affray At Smitty's Cafe

Lovington police charged Rosie Lee Ennis after a melee at Smitty's Cafe in which she allegedly stabbed Jeddie Miller. Miller, treated for stab wounds, pled guilty to being in an affray and paid a $25 fine. Ennis remains in custody with bond set at $3,000 awaiting district court.

Lea County approves 5 percent salary hike for most staff

Lea County Commissioners approved a general five per cent salary increase for all employees except elected officials and first deputies. The boost will be included in next year’s budget, which totals 877,903 with hospital expansion and elevator projects in Hobbs and Jal. The levy rate rises to 4.3 mills, generating about 878,274 for operations.

Funeral services are set for 5 p m today at St Yarbro Funeral Chapel for Rita Mary Barbee 35 of West Avenue O who died Tuesday at Lovington General Hospital after a period of illness. Burial will be in Lovington Cemetery. She was born August 23 1927 in New Orleans. Survivors include her husband Lee F Barbee one son Tom Lee three daughters Rita Vivian LeJean and Toni M all at home her mother Mrs Caffey of Dallas Texas two brothers Elmer Wilson in California and Anthony Wilson in Omaha one sister Miss Terresa in Dallas and grandmother W E Bees of Dallas.

Gann Rites Here Today

Dewey L. Gann aged 66 died Monday at his home in er Colorado after a heart attack. A former resident of Hamilton County Texas he moved to Lovington area two years ago. Funeral services will be held today at Smith Yarbro Chapel with burial in Lovington Cemetery. Survived by his wife of Boulder a son Gann Jr two daughters Mrs E W Hobby Gann Lovington and Dave Holloway Jr six grandchildren two sisters Nita Burns of Sa Texas and other relatives.
