Local Man Earl Alford Dies in Amarillo Hospital
Earl Alford eldest brother of Mrs. Nettie Shepherd of Lovington died Tuesday May 14 in an Amarillo hospital after a period of illness. Burial followed May 16. Survived by sister Mrs. Mercer of Graham Texas and brothers Charlie and Jimmy Alford of Amarillo plus a widow who died in January and another brother Bill Alford who died in March. He formerly owned a ranch at Nara Visa in the Clayton area and was well known in Lovington.

Thieves Take Propane Tank and Heat Converter From Tractor
Thieves removed a 20 gallon propane tank and a heat converter from a tractor behind Sacra' Bros. Bulane Company north of town between Friday afternoon and Tuesday. A pickup or car moved in after the rain and carried off the items, loaded into a waiting vehicle. Deputies say more than one person was involved and value is listed at 150 dollars. Authorities continue investigations.

138th Traffic Death Recorded In New Mexico
An Albuquerque insurance man, William Baumann, 58, became New Mexico’s 138th traffic fatality of 1957. His car overturned five times after losing control two miles south of Bernardo near the U S 85 and 60 junction. He was thrown from the vehicle and crushed when it failed to negotiate a curve. The state tally rose from 127 at this time last year.

Man Arrested In Car Theft
Hollis F. Hutchins of Hobbs faced arraignment in district court yesterday. He pleaded guilty to car theft and Judge Roy Anderson postponed sentencing. Hutchins was arrested in Hobbs on May 4 for taking a car and money with intent to cheat. The charge of intent to cheat was dismissed after the guilty plea.
