Rebel leaders led by former Col Talat Aydemir seized Ankara Radio, then were ousted by loyal forces and briefly reclaimed control before Ankara Radio went off air. Weekend Rains Bring Moisture to Lea County Fields
Light hail accompanied weekend showers across Lea County bringing 0.2 to 1.5 inches of moisture. Cotton emergence in about 75 percent of the county continues with only minor damage reported from hail. Temperatures dropped to 48 as a cold front moved in, keeping highs in the 50s into Monday.

Chinese Bust Not Found On Mt Everd Summit
KATMANDU Nepal James R Whitaker 32 of Washington said he and Sherpa Nawang Gombu scaled Mt Everest without supplemental oxygen May 1 reaching Camp 3 1/2 hours after the summit. They reported wind at the peak prevented communication and Whitaker claimed to drive an aluminum flag into the summit and to have found a bust of Mao left by the Chinese. The claim remains unconfirmed pending verification by officials.
