A banquet for College of the Southwest seniors highlights a warm campus culture. Dr. J L Burke praises dedication over wealth as small private colleges defend traditional Christian values and education beyond mere facts, contrasting with public institutions.
The Legislative Audit Commission will form a three man subcommittee to study a Roswell based accounting firm report criticizing the state JP system. The probe aims to address discrepancies in JP records and failure to report civil cases noted during the 1964 65 audit period.
A violent wind storm in Alamogordo left power out for hours and damaged most trailers in Wagon Wheel Court. Five injuries reported as gusts reached 88 mph. Police urged residents to stay clear amid debris and shattered glass.
Two Lovington residents Carolyn Jan et Coady and Emma Geraldine Williamson will earn B S degrees in elementary education at College of the Southwest rites in Hobbs. Fellow graduates include Loraine Fellers Christenson and Glennis Gay Criswell of Hobbs, with Dr. R C Goodwin delivering the commencement address at the First Baptist Church.
Dos Palos California officials allocate 290 from poverty funds to outfit 16 boys and their dates in tuxedos for the junior prom at Dos Palos Union High School. Superintendent Jack Mulkey says the event offers cultural development and etiquette practice, with federal and faculty approval.
Freshman class at Taylor Junior High voted at a called meeting Wednesday to fund a permanent Double T insignia at the rear of the school and donate all other contributions to the local cancer drive. A spokesman said a little over $20 would go to the cancer fund.
Washington reports three key economic gauges fell in April factory orders shipments and housing starts all declined. Gardner Ackley notes signs of slowing growth but cannot assure an anti inflation tax hike will not be needed. The April drop tempers inflation fears yet leaves policy questions unresolved.
