Buckeye Oil Fire Causes $6,000 Damage to Standard Oil Tanks
An oil fire three miles east of Buckeye damaged eight 1,000 gallon storage tanks and equipment at Standard Oil of Texas. The blaze started from a faulty gasoline circulating pump and was fueled by an exposed rubber hose. Lovington firefighters contained the blaze after two hours with water aids from Field Service Inc. and Halliburton Company. One fireman, Jim Bridgforth, was treated and released after overheating.

Lovington Teen Critical After Car Flips on Commercial Street
Delores Allen a Lovington High School sophomore 16-year-old was in critical condition after the 1960 Rambler she drove overturned on South Commercial Street at 10 33 p m. She was thrown clear and found in a bar ditch 30 feet away. Passenger Faye Neyland escaped injuries. The car owned by J W Milam Buckeye totaled in the wreck on the Denver City Highway east of Lovington.
