Lea County voters delivered a fierce primary with Alex Trimble narrowly beating Jake Fort by 195 votes to become sheriff. Gailen Hooper swept tax assessor against Mrs. F Henry by 1,527. Finis Heidel led State Representative race with 2,707 to J. W. Neal 2,020. Multiple county and state races followed with voters selecting party nominees for clerk, justice, and other offices.

Starkweather Called Dumbest Employee in Testimony
Charles Starkweather labeled the "dumbest man" at Western Newspaper Union warehouse by former employer John Hedge. Hedge testified Starkweather, 19, who later became a mass killer, worked 1955–1957 and left for his brother’s garbage route. An accident at the warehouse injured him, possibly affecting his mental state. doctors noted his need for glasses but normal vision with them.

Lovington Man Repeats Arrests In Two Hour Span
Ed Davis of Lovington appeared before City Magistrate Reese Greaves twice in under two hours. The first incident, drunken and disorderly conduct, led to a 30 day sentence with clemency granted and deferred. Two hours later he was found sleeping drunk in the park and began serving the sentence. Additional cases include Walter Fredrickson fined ten dollars for speeding and juvenile Brooks Gilbert fined five dollars. Doris Elton paid ten dollars for reckless driving and an accident. William Owen fined five dollars for failure to yield and an accident.

Slays Mother and Daughter in Sudden Ranch Shooting
