Prosecution read part of Charles Starkweather confession detailing 11 murders as the case nears its end. A letter claimed Caril Fugate helped plan the killings and admitted involvement, while Caril remains hospitalized and charged.
Lebanon President Camille Chamoun declared the country under attack from abroad as leftist mobs pressed near the U S embassy in Beirut. Western ambassadors reported arms and men entering Lebanon from Syria and ships off the coast, with three Egyptian boats seized near Gaza and clashes with police and troops in Deir Alhayer.
Five year old Norrie Anderson, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Anderson of 1001 W Harrison, fell from a 23 foot TV antenna at Crawford Culp ranch Sunday night. She was taken to Lea General Hospital Hobbs for X rays, no fractures found, sprained ankle. spent night in hospital, returned home Monday afternoon.
The New Mexico Supreme Court will hear a case involving several utility companies seeking reimbursement from the state highway commission and highway engineer for moving facilities from highway right of way. The Santa Fe district court ruled in favor of the utilities on repayment of moving costs, and a decision by the high court will take several months.
French military headquarters report more than 12 000 nationalist rebels killed in Algeria during the first four months of the year as fighting continues.

A second suit by Rosalio Ortega and family seeks $100000 for a head-on collision on Sept 29 1957 on State Road 18 near Hobbs, naming Avin James Caswell and others.
Open house at the Baptist student center near Eastern New Mexico University in Portales honored Edith Blackwell Clardy of Lovington and memory of her parents James W. Blackwell and Mattie Blackwell Garrett. Clardy donated about $2000 for library books, furnishings, a piano, and lounge draperies. the event was hosted by the Baptist convention of New Mexico.
Voters turned out despite bad weather with long lines at 11 a.m. At four polling sites 59 voted at the courthouse before a machine failed after four users. Health Center and Park View School reports show steady flow. County officials faced unadvertised precinct switches and late openings due to lack of officials. Turnout expected near a county record with 12 000 voters in Lea County. Lea County has 17 442 eligible voters with 15 622 Democrats, 1 339 Republicans, 419 undeclared, 70 independents, and 1 Prohibitionist registered.

Pvt. 3ayle D. Morris, 18, from Jal New Mexico, completed a 14 week switchboard and communications equipment installation and repair course at the Army Southeastern Signal School Fort Gordon Georgia. He entered the Army October 1957 and finished basic at Fort Carson Colorado. he is a 1957 Jal High School graduate.
Sammy Baugh, former Redskin quarterback, spoke at Hobbs High All-Sports banquet and criticized new sack dresses worn by cheerleaders. He said the outfits evoke prohibition era secrecy about what is hidden, prompting controversy among attendees.
Pfc Dee E Ross 21, son of Mrs. V Rotan, completed an eight week helicopter maintenance course at Fort Riley Kansas. Regularly with the 34 Maintenance Detachment, Ross entered the Army in September 1953. His wife Janet lives in Junction City Kansas. He previously worked for the International Drilling Co in Midland Texas.
Wesley Vaughn, a Lovington resident accused of intoxicated joy riding in a farm tractor, bailed out of county jail by posting 1.50 of a 100 dollar fine after serving most of the penalty. He borrowed the money from cell mates and praised his timing to freedom. Weekend notices report several forfeitures and fines in city and JP court, including multiple $25 bonds and $10 to $5 fines for speeding red lights and illegal parking.
Green Bay coach Ray McLean announced veteran quarterback Vito Parilli signed his 1958 Packers deal. The Kentucky native, nicknamed the Kentucky Babe, played for Kentucky in college and starred in the 1952 all star game. Mrs. Louise Winlock and W D Owen were charged by police after a collision at the intersection of West Jackson and Second Street. The eastbound Winlock vehicle struck Owens car in the right side causing over 1200 dollars in damages.
The New Mexico Press Women hold their annual convention in Santa Fe on May 24 with a panel discussion featuring state department heads.
