Postal Rates Boost Effective May 16
Postmaster A L Dunn announced that most postal rates increase May 16 as the Postal Service moves toward self sufficiency. First class letters rise from 6 to 8 cents per ounce, airmail from 10 to 11 cents, and cards to 6 and 9 cents respectively. Second and third class rates also rise on May 16 but are phased in, with full hikes contingent on federal funding over five to ten years. No changes occur for parcel post, but book rate rises begin. Canada and Mexico letter rates remain unchanged.

SANTA FE AP April was the richest month in all time for the State Revenue Bureau with tax collections totaling 31.05 million. The April collections for the state general fund exceeded the previous high in June 1970 by 5.5 million. State Finance Director Robert Kirkpatrick released the statistics and said the record month likely puts fiscal year collections on target. The April figure beat estimates by 0.7 million, balancing earlier lag. Kirkpatrick projects total general fund revenue for the year at 247.5 million, up 12.9 million or 5.5 percent from last year.
