Miss Johnna Russell of Albuquerque and John Shearman of Lovington won AMA honors at the National Science Fair in St. Louis. Russell shared first place for isolating cell acid from a germ and earns a trip to the AMA meeting in June in New York City. Shearman received a citation of merit for a hormone control exhibit.

Plans for the Cassius Clay Sonny Liston heavyweight title bout in Boston on May 25 were canceled. The promoters and legal actions prompted a shift to possibly another city on the same date. Dist Atty Garrett Byrne sought a restraining order but the motion was withdrawn after a meeting with promoters counsel.
In Spur Texas the Caprock Peace Officers Association held the 17th annual rattlesnake rodeo. About 100 venomous snakes were blasted by 24 contestants who qualified by scoring on non moving targets. Hunters shot only after snakes were captured in a pit with three shots each.
