Howard H Hamilton 77 died 8 p m Saturday at his ranch home eight miles northwest of Lovington after a long illness. The service led by Roy Blizzard at the First Christian Church with burial in Lovington Cemetery. Survivors include wife Bernice two sisters Kate Garrett Alma Albert two brothers Sims and Roy Hamilton.
Lovington police hunt for the driver of a car that sideswiped a 1955 Pontiac carrying 16 year old Dorothy Sharon Boteler on South Main Street Saturday night at 9 40. Boteler was turning onto West Avenue P when a vehicle racing another car struck her side and fled. Police pursue several leads as they investigate a vague vehicle description.
Defense and prosecution attorneys began the first degree murder trial Monday for 35 year old Marlin Lee Mosely of Santa Fe. He is charged with killing James Jackson, an airman at Sandia Base, in a July 22 shooting near the Yucca Sapper Club in south Santa Fe. District Attorney Al Sanchez said the trial should run most of the week under Judge Samuel Z. Montoya. Police investigation continues.
Mrs Hugh Smith of Hobbs Lea County accompanied her husband to the New Mexico 60 day legislative session in Santa Fe and did not miss a single House meeting. She described the experience as interesting and educational and knit two sweaters during long debates while observing proceedings.
Harold S. Bibo of Silver City was chosen by the State Personnel Board among 23 candidates for state personnel director and awaits the governor's approval. The retired Army colonel and insurance broker impressed with a strong New Mexico background, as Gov. Campbell expressed hearty approval after interviewing top candidates. Bibo succeeds Milton E. Scudder, with acting director Barry Sanderson in place during the transition.
A 25-year-old New Mexico man begins medical tests to determine kidney donation to Arnold Senne of Denver. He volunteered with 54 others in a statewide pool, aiming to save Senne's life after his kidney disease crises.
