Santa Fe UPI Gov. Jack Campbell vetoed three items in the $139.6 million appropriations package. He struck $8000 for the Indian Ceremonial Association and reduced motor vehicle funding while allowing reorganization of the department to transfer license duties. The measure funds public education and higher education and passed with minimal dissent.

Lea Farmers to Hear Cotton Meeting Tuesday
A Lea County meeting for cotton farmers is set for Tuesday at 7 30 p m at the Knowles Community Center. Experts Bill Campbell of the Agriculture Products Co Artesia and Gordon Hoff extension agronomist of New Mexico State University will discuss a program to combat cotton seedling diseases and review new fungicides and insecticides for planting time. Jim Gilstrap, the county agent, says new products could be a real asset to Lea County.

In Roswell on Saturday night John Shearman of Lovington and William Wood of Hobbs topped the Southern New Mexico High School Science Fair. They earned the right to enter their exhibits in the National Science Fair in Albuquerque in May. Shearman won first in biological sciences for his hormone research. Wood won best in physical sciences for gas chromatography. Edwin Wright of Lovington and Jim Chumbley of Artesia earned first alternates in their divisions. Awards were announced at a banquet at New Mexico Military Institute.

Pioneer Dies at Lovington Home
Howard H. Hamilton died about 8 o'clock last night at his Lovington area home northwest of town. Funeral services are pending at Smith Yarbro. He is survived by wife Bernice two sisters Mrs. Kate Garrett of Lovington and another in Texas and one brother Roy Hamilton of Oklahoma. He had been in poor health.

Kidney transplant scheduled in April at Lovington man level
A Colorado General Hospital spokesman said a kidney transplant for Jerry Ruth 28 Lovington N M is likely in mid April with no definite date set. Ruth suffers kidney disease and has been treated with an artificial kidney while surgeons test compatibility with a donor from among Ruth family members.
