Two Fire Calls This Morning In Lovington
Lovington fire siren sounded twice as firefighters responded to two calls. About 11 a m a small grass fire 12 miles north on the Tatum Highway was subdued with no blaze found. Just before noon at 1101 South First occupants feared smoke but investigators found nothing. Chief Wayne Benson noted many recent calls, mostly minor grass fires, with two major incidents: Jackson Chevrolet on the 3rd and a trailer fire last night.

Funeral services for Kenneth Furr age 61 of 610 West Avenue F Lovington will be held at First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. EJ Bradshaw officiating. Burial in Lovington Cemetery Smith Rogers Funeral Home in charge. Survived by wife Bonnie of Lovington son Keith of Lovington daughter Joanna Morris of Lakeview Texas and six grandchildren. He operated Furr Lanes bowling alley and had lived in Lovington 20 years. Born in Oregon. Died 8 15 this morning at Lea General Hospital after a light stroke Thursday night at his bowling alley.

Fire Destroys Trailer Home of Longoria Family
A Thursday evening trailer fire destroyed the Longoria family home and all possessions. Mr and Mrs Paul Longoria and their sons Able Roy and Wally escaped unharmed.
