United Press International reports a snowstorm moving through New Mexico prompts travel advisories for western and northern mountains. Snow touched Gallup Farmington and Las Vegas with about an inch, with broader flakes from the Gila to Sangre de Cristo ranges. Temperatures range from the mid 20s to mid 60s as the system shifts and a warming trend is forecast after Mondays new storm.

Fire Chief Wayne Benson announced the ambulance service has transferred duties to the fire department and a new phone number 396-2112 should be used for emergency calls. Response will be expedited by the new number.
Sam Maddry father of David Maddry of Lovington died Thursday at Cotton Valley Louisiana after illness. Funeral services set for Saturday March 10 at the Pentecostal Church in Cotton Valley. The Maddry family including Mrs Maddry Linda and Joe left for Louisiana.
NMJC presents a 7 30 p m talent show in the Fine Arts Auditorium with $25 first $15 second and $10 third prizes public admission 1 NMJC students 50 cents. Act I features NMJC choir Hello Dolly several acts by students including Jo e Flores Cathe Duncan Dena Reynolds Jimmy Adkins Marla Parks and others through a closing South Pacific number.
New Mexico House votes 38 to 31 to overturn a favorable committee report on a Republican backed income tax reduction bill. Sponsor Rep Rhodes says tax relief is needed while opponents warn the surplus would vanish. HB501 proposes a new investment funded from about half of a two million surplus and severance tax bond receipts.
Dick Kershaw president of Kershaw's K-Bar announces expansion of the Lovington plant with a 3,000 head increase to 10,000 and new overhead feed tanks at the Avenue D site. Weather and terrain helped cattle fare better than Texas panhandle lots, while storage improvements promise smoother feed logistics and mill maintenance relief.
State police reported multiple traffic fatalities in Lea County and Eunice area. A 15 year old, Torres, was found dead in a wreck on US 70 east of Tularosa after missing a curve. A separate NM 18 collision near Eunice killed Monroe Watkins 29 of Hobbs and his passenger Bobbie Gene Walker 37 of Hobbs.
