Obituary and reflection on Henry Luce and the Time Life Fortune publishing empire. It lauds Luce as a transformative editor who popularized interpretive journalism and influenced American public opinion, noting Time’s controversial prestige and the era’s dust storms and blue norther fronts.
Regional Library Lovington extends service to four communities. Carlsbad Caverns chief Mr. Peterson and Jack White Sr. request bookmobile visits to Carlsbad and White City with 25 and 30 families. First trips set for March 8 and 29. Villa Solano Training School in Chaves county included in schedule. staff and students praise the effort. Malaga visits by El Paso Gap school with 8 students.
The New Mexico Senate rejected a wide ranging bill setting a 10 percent minimum markup on nearly all retail sales including groceries liquor and gasoline. The measure aimed to curb below cost merchandising and protect small grocers but failed after committee opposition and a 22 14 vote to set aside the motion. Senator Mc Clure backed the effort noting a dairy price precedent earlier in the week.
Photographs from Robert R. Martin of Hobbs will be shown March 16 18 at Saint Marys Episcopal Church Lovington Rev William H Martin says the first solo exhibit includes 80 pictures of still life pets industry people and oil field aerials with humor. Martin is self taught through reading trial and error and a Hobbs photography club mutual critique group.
The New Mexico Junior College Board was re elected yesterday in light voting. Returned to office are Finis Heidel Lovington Ferrell Caster Tatum George Mansur Finn Watson Hobbs and Roy McLean Eunice. McLean was the only member with opposition. He polled 604 votes. Joseph Rickman also of Eunice got 266 votes. Finn Watson Hobbs truck dealer led the popularity parade with 776 votes but the other incumbents were not far behind. Tabulations on election results are on page 2 in graph com.
The speaker jokes about the saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away and shares a view on health. He argues people should eat what they want within budget, avoid overindulgence, and trust that a happy stomach leads to overall well being. He values feeling good as the main measure of health.
Lovington city commissioners approved an effective next month increase of $1 per water and sewer connection to both residential and business customers. The measure targets a $44,500 equipment list and rising maintenance costs amid revenue shortfalls and postponed capital purchases, with a projected yearly impact of about $24 per average citizen. The move follows consideration of state tax bills and city fuel taxes, none of which fully materialized to offset the needed funds.

Lovington Chamber of Commerce backed a project by the North Central 4-H Club to landscape the new Publicity Building grounds a triangular plot bordered by Highway 18 North Main and the county hospital. The 30 member club will work a year on a southwest desert motif using caliche rock cactus and local materials.
