Lovington Rotary Club Wins District 552 Honors
About 450 Rotarians and Rotary Anns from southeast New Mexico and west Texas gathered for the Rotary District 552 conference in Carlsbad. Lovington, Texico Farwell and Ruidoso clubs earned district awards. Lovington claimed best attendance and outstanding vocational program, plus runner-up for its weekly publication The Scout.

Roof Burns Off House Here Tuesday
A fire at 309 W Harrison damaged a four room frame house owned by Henry Granger after 5 pm Tuesday. Firemen from Loving ton fought the blaze, which started from faulty wiring and destroyed the roof but spared other areas. Water damage affected interior walls and furniture. two later alarms were false.

House Committee Backs Do Pass On Sales Tax Increases
New Mexico House Taxation Committee approved do pass recommendations on a package raising four state levies by 50 percent, including the sales tax. The plan ends the June 30 1965 cutoff for increases was removed, making the hikes permanent pending new legislation.

Sheriff details a trap set with the victim’s help after a 26 year old man threatened a 15 year old girl with nude photos and demanded $100.
