President Eisenhower told reporters that Nixon never served as acting president during his three serious illnesses. He noted no pure presidential decision was needed during the 1955 heart attack 1956 gallbladder operation or last November stroke but affirmed Nixon would have acted if such a crisis had arisen. He reiterated there was a clear understanding with Nixon on presidential disability.
President Eisenhower disclosed that Russia proposed holding an East Summit conference in the United States. He said the idea would be viable if called for a long, well prepared meeting to ease war tensions and pursue progress.
Justice of the Peace Riese Greaves sentenced five men to 90 days in county jail for giving worthless checks. Others received 20 days, driving and reckless driving fines, speeding bond forfeitures, and various small costs. Notable penalties include a $100 driving while intoxicated fine and multiple drunkenness and larceny outcomes.
Funeral services are pending at Green Chapel Hobbs for Frank Alexander known as Cripple Frank. His body was found in bed at 6 40 am Sunday by a neighbor. A coroners jury led by Louis Bryan ruled death from natural causes. Hobbs Police and Green Chapel seek relatives.
South Dakota total revenue rose to 39,513,296 in 1957 from 88,907,678 in 1956. Motor vehicle revenue led the gain, increasing from 15,521,795 to 17,214,037.

Lovington Junior High School presents a spring concert by the Cadet Band and vocal groups in the Junior High Gymnasium on March 7, 1958 at 7 30 p m. Performances include Creole Lullaby Firework Music Dancing Reeds In a Clock Store Elijah Rock Ave Maria The Lord s Prayer O Divine Redeemer with featuring solos Suzanne Friera Ghee Vaesits. Band directed by Rock Reed and vocal groups by Anne Gunn. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Lovington 69 year old former attorney general Robert C Dow filed for the Democratic nomination for governor in Santa Fe. He previously ran in 1928 and said he decided to run after reading the Bible Sunday night. other Democratic contenders include John Burroughs Cole Moffett and Joseph Bursey with Ingram B Pickett expected to file. Ralph Trigg withdrew.
Hubert Gill and Hubert Maddox, partners in Lovington Implement Co, form a new business at 117 West Avenue D. The coin operated automatic laundry will be open day and night with Maytag machines and dryers. A neighboring yard will become a parking lot. opening date to be announced soon.
John J. Dempsey reports the National Guard Bureau has authorized the New Mexico Adjutant General to complete a $60,000 armory project in Hobbs funded by a federal contribution. The current Hobbs facility is a war surplus building near Air Base City awaiting replacement.

A mother and son from Alexandria Louisiana died Sunday in a crash south of Las Cruces. Identified victims are Anna A. O'Shea 68 and Pat O'Shea 30. The driver Roy Dean 45 of Las Cruces and his daughter plus two Texas A and M College students suffered minor injuries.
