A reader urges participation in the junior college board election, backing George Mansur and Ray Potter, noting at large seats. The New Mexico House approved two key spending bills, 1 million for a second year of kindergarten and 6 million for public school capital improvements, sending both to the Senate. A free mobile medical clinic from Albuquerque aided Artesia strike families lacking funds. The Bobby Garcia Memorial Clinic van, painted with a mother and child motif, visited Artesia on Feb 24 with police support. It treated 53 people for illnesses including high blood pressure diabetes and cardiac disease, and coordinated hospital admission for one child. Three patients later traveled to Albuquerque for specialist appointments.
Michael's Spanish Restaurant on the east side of the square will hold its official grand opening Monday at 10:00. Lovington Chamber of Commerce president Jerry Ancel will cut the ribbon to note the opening. The restaurant, run by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Caudill, serves Mexican dishes in an Old Spain atmosphere with American dishes available.
Llano Elementary School students will plant a freedom tree on Monday morning March 5 to honor prisoners of war who died in captivity and returning prisoners. Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion representatives will attend. At 9 00 a.m. the colors will be advanced, Merrill Norton will give a dedication speech, and Joe Rodriguez will blow retreat on trumpet.
Voters across Hobbs Lovington Eunice Tatum and nearby precincts will cast ballots on March 6 with eight polling sites listed and consolidations at state venues. The race features Johnny W Jones vs Ray Potter for the vacated Board Chairman seat and incumbent George Mansur facing Dr E M Peck. Polls run 8 am to 7 pm at specified schools and buildings.

Air Force Col. Albert E. Runyan of Albuquerque said he and other returned prisoners of war will not discuss their treatment until all POWs are home. He spoke at a news conference in Wichita Falls and will fly to Albuquerque after his release on February 12.
The 1973 Science Fair at Llano Elementary School Saturday March 3 drew about 300 participants and featured 210 projects across fourth to senior high. Winners received Kiwanis medals and blue ribbons in several categories while judges and volunteers from the high school science club and local organizations organized the event. Local Kiwanis and KLEA supported prizes and promotional efforts, with judges named and four hours spent reviewing projects and awarding ribbons. County and city commissioners meet Tuesday to address routine items.
February building activity in Lovington totals 75000. Helms Construction received two permits for 25000 each for duplexes on South Ninth. Al Dimsha was issued a 25000 permit for a residence at 1426 Yuca Drive. R L Wallace plans a 2000 addition to a commercial building at 1312 South Love.
Western states leading cotton producers and industry officials will meet in Lubbock Texas March 7 8 for the Western Cotton Production Conference. The event aims to provide data on production and harvesting and a forum to discuss weed control storage and farm programs.
Mrs. Pam Shipp, chairwoman, announced the door to door drive collected more than 1300 for the March of Dimes. She thanked co chairmen and numerous groups including FFA FTA FPA and FNA volunteers at Central Lovington High School and others who contributed for the children.
