Weak Service Exemption Bill Advances In New Mexico Senate
A bill to allow New Mexico service members to refuse overseas duty in an undeclared war was sent to the full Senate without recommendation by the Senate Public Affairs Committee. Introduced by Sen. Emmett C Hart, the measure borrows from a 1970 Massachusetts law and would require the state attorney general to defend soldiers who refuse deployment.

A retired rancher, he lived at 903 W Avenue and belonged to First United Methodist Church Open Range Cowboys Lovington Masonic Lodge AF and AM and American Legion. Survived by wife Katie daughter Betty Lou Cheyney Roswell brother Walter Lovington sister Bennie Lee Durham Lubbock and three grandchildren. Services Saturday at 10 am at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Edwin Chappell and Rev. Tom Morris assisting.
