A late winter storm shut Interstate 40 and US 66 between Moriarty and the Texas line and US 84 between Santa Rosa and Las Vegas, with rains and snow, slick spots, and several motorists stranded overnight. Santa Fe reports the average statewide property tax rate fell to 35.79 per thousand after extensive county assessments. The rate is the lowest since 1960-61, though it rose slightly from 34.70 in 1969-70 and remains well below the 41.61 peak in 1968-69.
