February brought an unusually cold and dry spell to Lovington with an average temperature of 41 degrees about two degrees below normal. Voters in Lovington Municipal School District pass a one million dollar bond by 528 to 81. A total of 621 ballots cast, 609 counted with 12 mutilated, high school gym 219 to 30, health center 309 to 51, enabling upgrades at the Jefferson Street campus to meet higher standards.
Lovington's Heart Fund Drive officially ended with contributions totaling 1299.48 as of late morning. The three fold increase over last year follows a door to door campaign that raised 573.95 Sunday and 195 more since, with new donors including Lester Alston Giles M Lee Wallace Oil Company Arledge's Don Wallace Frankie Monteith J E Simmons Ernie McNutt James W Gilstrap J T Easley Crow's Dry Goods M R Jones and the Lovington Daily Leader.

Greater Lovington reports the Broadway play Barefoot in the Park nearly broke even on its Lovington stop. Total ticket receipts exceed 2200 dollars with a 2000 dollar guarantee from the city. The road company is pleased and hopes to return next year amid a local audience poll on continuing such community enterprise.
