World leaders said a POW crisis threatened the Vietnam talks but the dispute was resolved and a peace agreement initialed by the United States and North Vietnam. Delegations resumed work after the POW issue was settled, and officials described the document as initialed without amendments.
St Marys Episcopal Church hosts its 19th annual spaghetti supper tonight starting at 5 pm. Proceeds benefit church activities with free delivery by the youth group until 8 pm. Tickets are $1.50 for adults and 50 cents for children, with dessert 25 cents more. Carryout calls 396-5222.

Ida Farrah Allen 89 died in Santa Cruz California after a long illness. She lived in Lovington with her husband Dean R. Allen before moving to Texas in 1946. Survived by three daughters and a sister, services set for Saturday at 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church Lovington. Interment Lovington Cemetery. Smith Rogers Funeral Home directs.
New Mexico Senate Finance Committee backs adding four judges to the Second Judicial District and one to the Fifth District. Rejected measures to add a Ninth District judge and a 13th District judge. A statewide plan is urged to assess needs, with two Second District judges to be added July 1 and July 1, 1974.
A 4200 gallon oil spill from a Tenneco pond broke near Cabezon New Mexico contaminating the Rio Grande upstream of Socorro. Diversion gates redirected flow past the La Joya refuge to trap oil and debris while booms failed and cleanup focused on the Rio Puerc o and upper river arroyos. External agencies coordinated with Tenneco to monitor downstream risk to Bosque del Apache.

State Fire Inspector traced a blaze at New Mexico State University to an electrical short. Originating in the southwest corner of a large classroom, investigators found the fire began in sub flooring. No injuries were reported as two Army-type barrels burned on campus Friday night.
The Lovington Heart Fund contributions approach one million dollars with more funds still coming in. About 60 volunteers for Heart Sunday produced an excellent turnout and strong results, said co-chairman Bob Dean.

The New Mexico State Senate approved a strict drug trafficking bill 40 to 0, mandating life imprisonment without parole for a first offense and for subsequent offenses. A first offender may avoid life under certain cooperation conditions. The measure, sparked by Sen. Echols, aims to curb major pushers and chain the catch to bigger dealers.

Funeral services are scheduled for Mrs Myrtle Martin, former resident of Lovington, who died in Albuquerque on Monday. The service will be on Saturday March 3 at 2 00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev M L Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Lovington Cemetery under Smith Rogers Funeral Home direction.
