Idlewild Jetliner Crashes in Wildlife Preserve Killing All Aboard
An American Airlines 707 on a Los Angeles bound leg plunged during takeoff from Idlewild Airport and exploded in a swampy preserve. All aboard were killed in the fiery crash, the worst US single plane disaster, cooling the city as astronaut John H. Glenn prepared to arrive. Sudderths Praise for Lea County Road Crew Progress

Henry Record One Of Diminishing Breed
Henry Record, a 90 year old East Plains pioneer cowboy known as Uncle Henry, died Tuesday. He helped found the Jal Cattle Ranch and the Open Range Cowboy Association, and recalled seeing Indian braves near Monument Springs in 1890. Funeral held at First Baptist Church Hobbs with burial planned at Lovington Cemetery beside his wife.
