Kansas Man Killed In Hobbs Crash
A Kansas man, John H. Aaron, 39, of Wichita, died from head injuries when his car rear ended a pickup on State Highway 18, four miles north of Hobbs. The driver, Frankie G. Davis, 33, Wichita, was in critical condition. five others including Adam Granger, 21, Lovington, and Sylvester Torrez, 29, La Mesa, Texas, were injured.

Two people remained in hospital after a Thursday night ton car crash at Jefferson and First Street. M Merle Joiner 1017 W Ave I suffered a possible skull fracture. Virginie Mae Veazey 614 W Ave E had a ruptured eardrum and other injuries. A teen passenger Janice Sure Blakley Las Vegas Nevada 17 was treated and released. Police listed damages: one car total loss $1500 house damage and Buick driven by Joiner four feet into yard. Joiner to be charged with driving while intoxicated.

Jimmy Rayford Elmore, 23, of Lovington, fined 200 dollars and sentenced to 30 days in jail for driving while intoxicated after a Thursday night hit and run. Beth Peyton an 18 year old from near Texas won the New Mexico maid of cotton contest over nine rivals at Eastern New Mexico University. Suzanne Carol Appleton of Deming was first runner up and Marilyn Tilden Joyce of Carlsbad was second runner up. Shelby Smith of Albuquerque held last year’s national title and is now touring as a cotton industry ambassador. Miss Peyton is five feet five and a half inches tall and has TV modeling experience in Clovis.

Missing 13 year old girl last seen in Lovington
A 13 year old Negro girl Billie Joyce Clemmons remained missing since Wednesday after leaving her grandmother Mrs. Mary Robinsons home at 317 N Chavez St Lovington. Authorities in Texas and New Mexico were alerted and searched near Tata and along the route from Lovington to Jacksonville Texas where she had traveled the day before. A Denver man Luis Monge 45 confessed to killing his pregnant wife Leonarda 43 and three children Teresa 11 months Vincent 4 and Alan as they slept. Christmas Program Sign-Up Deadline Set for Merchants
