He will serve as ship’s physician to 36 scientists and crew while near the bottom of the world, with limited communications. He travels via Hobbs Albuquerque San Francisco Honolulu Aukland, crossing the date line, and plans to join in scientific work when possible.
A senior speaker contemplates rejecting Medicare enrollment after nearly two months of thought. He notes no recent illnesses in 17 years and fears hospital stays if sick, expressing distrust in government programs and reliance on old fashioned remedies like sulphur and molasses.
James H. Meredith with 250 followers enters Tougaloo College near Jackson amid a 15 mile final leg from Canton. About 1,000 Negroes including Dr. Martin Luther King join the group for the campus rally before a Sunday capitol protest.
Leonard C. Lehl a Lovington High School English and Journalism teacher attends a three week Journalism Seminar at the University of Texas in Austin with 31 teachers and students from 14 states. The session runs June 20 to July 9 under Dr. DeWitt C. Reddick and is sponsored by the Newspaper Fund Inc and the Wall Street Journal.
Lovington reports inclement weather delays a grasshopper spraying program set to start Monday in Lea Chaves and Eddy counties. Assistant state supervisor Duane Bartholf said three of four aircraft had pumping problems but the remaining plane sprayed a small load Monday. Mechanical issues were fixed Monday afternoon, but rain and high winds delayed further flights. The project covers about 360000 acres, mostly in Lea County.

The Lea County Junior Rodeo Association will host a playday this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Jake McClure Arena. About 40 youth are expected. Events include barrel racing pole bending flag races tie-down rope ribbon roping and break-away roping with Seniors juniors and pee wees classes.
An accident Friday at 4 11 p m damaged a 1963 Ford and a trailer. The trailer broke loose from a 1959 Borgward driven by Ethel Marie Goff of Tatum, hitting the left side of a 1963 Ford driven by Estelle Trimble Crutchfield of Love ington as she exited a service station. No citations or injuries were reported.
Funeral services for Arthur Elsworth Son, 74, are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Tatum. Burial will follow at Tatum Cemetery.
Reverend Roy Blizzard of the First Christian Church in Lovington will depart June 29 for a six week stay in Israel to pursue a Ph.D. in Biblical history and archaeology at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He will study biblical history archaeology Hebrew and contemporary Hebrew prose while staying with David Bivin in Jerusalem and will photograph and collect samples during weekend tours and digs.
