Dry conditions press Lovington as water use climbs to a city record of 4 292 000 gallons on Thursday. The town relies on 11 wells with a 400 000 gallon storage field and 3 300 000 in tank storage while a new well comes online to ease demand.

Gulf and Mobil reportedly consider minorities in Ringling Bros. Circus and Montgomery Ward as part of diversification. An APIOffice executive says such moves could raise public relations concerns but are prudent given large energy spending and the need to deliver returns to stockholders.
Liberty National Bank directors declare a 50 cent per share dividend payable July 1. Winford Carlile president says it is the highest semi annual dividend ever paid by the bank reflecting its strong growth. Liberty has about 150 shareholders.
Two Socorro ranchers Lewis Rotter and John Mayo failed in their $569000 suit against Roswell Flying Service and Hercules Powder Corp for cattle losses and family illnesses after a silvex spraying program by the Bureau of Reclamation. A district court jury rejected their claim after three hours of deliberation.
