Rev. L. S. Manny Loveall new First Christian Church pastor moved to Lovington last week replacing Roy Blizzard. He previously served Bartlesville Oklahoma and has four children and seven and a half years as a deputy sheriff. He is a Miami Oklahoma High School graduate.

Saturday's weather reached a 91 degree high by 4 PM and a 68 degree low by 6 AM. Conditions remained dry with clear skies throughout the day and light winds.

Tijerina Held Without Bond In First Degree Kidnaping

Four men including Reies Tijerina were ordered held without bond on first degree kidnaping charges after the Tierra Amarilla courthouse raid. Wounded jailer Eulogio Salazar testified Tijerina shot him in the jaw as he leaped from the building during the June 5 assault in Rio Arriba County New Mexico.

Lovington Migrant Program Begins Under Title One

Lovington Schools designated contract school for Lea County in a new Title One Migrant Program. Funds flow through Lovington, with Hobbs also signing, to assist migrant children ages 5 to 17. Jimmy Henry directs the program. Joe Gulledge coordinates field work. Goals include assessing migrant needs, addressing health and schooling, and creating education opportunities as populations move.

Rosary Services Held for Julius R Tylich in Lovington

Rosary was recited for Julius R Tylich a 54 year old Lovington resident who died Thursday morning at Lovington Lea General Hospital after a five month illness. He lived at 311 South Second and worked 23 years for Service Pipeline Company. Survived by wife Anne two daughters Betty Ann Tylich and Tisha Rose Tylich a son Charles Raymond and his parents siblings and extended family. Rosary at Smith Rogers Chapel, body flown to Edna Texas for Saturday funeral and burial.

Lovington DeMolay Leader Wright Earns Chevalier Degree

Max Edwin Wright of Lovington Chapter received the Chevalier degree at the State Conclave of DeMolays in New Mexico held in Portales at ENMU. A Past Master Councilor, Meritorious Service Award recipient and state Knighthood director, he serves as master of ceremonies and is a junior at SMU.
