Two Hurt In Sunday Lovington Road Collision
A two car crash east of Lovington REA plant Sunday injured two people. Roy McLellan Mercer 66 of Gainsville Texas drove a 1960 Ford on State Road 337 wrong way and struck John Lucian Smith 49 of Lovington in a 1966 Chevrolet pickup. Bernice Smith 44 was a passenger. Mercer faces drunk driving and wrong side of road charges. Both injured were admitted to Sea General Hospital in fair condition.

Two-car Crash Causes Minor Vehicle Damage
A collision yesterday evening involved a 1964 Chevrolet driven by Jimmy Presley Hodge 18 and a 1962 Chevrolet driven by Herbert Courch 16 near Main Street and avenue H. A 43 year old Hobbs man Woody Brown Howell was shot at his Bond Street home late Monday and died at Lea General Hospital around 7:35 p.m. His wife Jewel Howell was questioned and an inquest was set for 1:30 p.m. Asst. Dist. Atty. Joe Walton said she was sedated at the hospital. Police and sheriff officials declined comment on the case.
