Officials noted the mother county unit in Hobbs will close and Judge N Randolph Reese urged a new building for two Hobbs district judges. The county currently rents a Taylor Street building for 150 dollars monthly.
Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield said leaks and delays in the House Judiciary Committee impeachment inquiry disturb him and he urged focus on the issue. He blamed the White House for delays and the committee for leaks, calling the process a carnival of innuendo and urging a fair, open review.

Douglas Esmond reported two weeks after a thief stole a five gallon can of gasoline from his pickup in Oroville California that he replaced the can with another five gallon container filled with gasoline and added several pounds of sugar in a bid to lure the thief. Deputies described the suspect vehicle as having a gummy engine.
Linda Kay Standifier, 21, is jailed in Clovis on $25,000 bond for murder after her husband Willie Standifier, 22, was shot outside their home last Friday. Police say the shotgun slaying followed an argument. A preliminary hearing is pending.
Washington was tense as Assistant Attorney General Henry E. Petersen and Sen Sam J Ervin clashed during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Earl J Silbert’s nomination as U S attorney in Washington The debate centered on the Justice Department role in Watergate and Petersen angrily challenged Ervin over comments about the burglary case.
