The Senate approved a 3 billion 668000 Agriculture Department bill restoring Soil Bank authority. A separate local fund for rewarding information about a goat dragged behind a car has reached 55 dollars with donations from individuals and company leaders.
Eddy Markham, 59, of Lovington, inherits 120 acres and four oil wells near Odessa from an uncle. Magnolia Oil will continue production with royalties, providing about 150 dollars daily for a family of four. He plans to move his children to Lovington, buy a farm, and rebuild after years of hardship and a back injury.
Mrs. Crow and companions attended the ENMU band camp in Portales and praised the Band Concert as wonderful. Vera Sparkman also visited her daughter Claulia Kay at the camp and her sister in Ruidoso, with Lovington residents among campers and visitors last weekend.

City and county officers cornered Harold Hensley at his home in a tense standoff. Chief James Robinson entered via an open bedroom window to confront Hensley who resisted leaving the house after a distress call from his daughter. Hensley was jailed on charges of assaulting his wife.
New York band leader Jimmy Dorsey died at Doctors Hospital at age 53 five months after lung growth surgery. His brother and longtime associate Tommy Dorsey died last November 26. Dorsey entered hospital for surgery in January and briefly resumed duties at a mid town New York hotel in February before returning to the hospital March 13.
A gasoline bottle exploded this morning on 303 Avenue L injuring seven year old Richard Shelton who suffered severe burns to his left leg and hands. Grandfather Dick Ross helped extinguish the flames but also burned his hands. Neighbors witnessed the flames and the boy being rushed to a doctor by his father.
The body of 18 month old Helen Evans was found at the edge of a reservoir two blocks from her home in Tularosa after an extensive search. A coroner's jury led by Judge Rio McNaitt ruled the death accidental drowning. The child was daughter of Mrs. Colette Kaye who reported missing the girl Saturday.

Rev J Samuel Phillips of the First Baptist Church Cabot Arkansas will serve as pastor of the First Baptist Church Lovington arriving July 1. He is a Texarkana native with degrees from Ouachita and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mrs Phillips and two children accompany him. The church has had interim pastor Dr H E Bergstrom of Eastern New Mexico University.
The new ordinance raises all garbage collection rates effective July 1. Home rates double to $2 per month, apartment rates rise to $1.50, and trailer park fees are left to the sanitation department. Businesses pay $2 to $200 with a lien possible for nonpayment. Residence assessments due January 1. monthly penalties apply to late business payments.

A 50 year old Dallas woman, Pauline Bennett, was injured when a 1926 model automobile she was cranking rolled in gear. Police report she failed to notice the car in gear, the engine started, and the vehicle dragged her about 20 feet, leaving a severe head injury.
Local police investigate the theft of three three inch upset thread protectors from a Phillips well on the George Williams ranch, 18 miles west of Lovington. Valued at 105000, the items belong to W. E. Pitman of Midland, Texas. Deputies Villars and White are on the case.
The First Methodist Church of Lovington hosted Rev. and Mrs. Tripp at a Sunday tea in the Fellowship Hall on June 9. About 85 guests attended as hostesses welcomed the couple with a corsage and a decorative tea setup featuring bells of Ireland, pink roses, and larkspur arrangements.
