President Eisenhower followed the Saratoga fleet as a search for two missing Navy fliers continued after a ditching off the Georgia coast. One body was found while the other survivor was rescued by helicopter.
Macario Lopez 69 of Elida died of natural causes after hiding during a visit to his son 14 miles north of Hobbs. Coroner's Jury members listed include Warren Summings and Jack Meyers with justice of the peace Louis Bryan. Rosary at Griffins Funeral Home June 6. Catholic Church service June 7 at 2 pm. burial at Prairie Haven Cemetery. Lopez was a World War I veteran.
Karen Sue Fletcher age 2 of 1813 South Cochran Hobbs died in the local hospital. She is survived by a sister and brother, grandparents and relatives. Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev Joe F. Rogers officiating. Burial in Prairie Haven Cemetery. Griffin Service in charge.
Jimmy Caldwell of Writien Printing Co. plans a test case in Deming or Las Cruces to challenge New Mexico’s marriage license law. He seeks funds from border justice of the peace figures as the law narrows quickie marriages. County Clerk John Love denied a license after a medical certificate requirement, signaling revenue concerns for border area counties.
Mrs Eva Kluting 513 North McKinley Hobbs died Saturday in a local hospital after a long illness. She is survived by husband W W Kluting and daughter Joan Kluting, plus other children not named. Services set for Monday at Taylor Street Church of Christ Hobbs with burial at Prairie Haven Cemetery Griffin Service in charge.
Ellis Finch leads a fundraising drive after a goat in Lovington was dragged and battered, losing an eye and hair. Finch offers 5 dollars, the Leader adds 10, and others may donate to reward an informer. Investigators located drag marks and car tracks near the scene.

Two deadly accidents occurred within three hours on the Denver City Highway. James K. Allen White, a Santa Fe mining engineer, is held on a 30000 bond in Reno Nevada while fighting extradition to New Mexico. He faces a long prison term for the murder of his wife after a second conviction upheld by the state supreme court following a reversed original district court decision.
