Navajos File Suit Against U S Government For Damages

The Navajo tribe sues the United States in the Court of Claims seeking 50 to 100 million dollars. The suit, filed May 28, requests a general accounting of tribal trust funds from August 13, 1946, to the present and cites alleged improper handling of oil and mineral lease proceeds and delayed interest payments.

SCC Approves Ambulance Rate Increase in New Mexico

The State Corporation Commission approved higher ambulance rates in New Mexico, setting patients at 20 dollars for the first mile plus 75 cents per additional mile after the first 50, with 13 dollars for the first mile and 75 cents for each extra mile for corpses. Only three firms showed a profit among 21, and collection efficiency had been about 60 percent.

Winds Fan New Fire At Alamo Hueco

BLM crews fought a lightning started brush fire in the Alamo Hueco mountains in extreme southwest New Mexico. About 3 000 acres burned with around a dozen hot spots around the perimeter.
