His parents expect growth and remarkable changes in the town and themselves.
Brenda Hilliard, a seventh grader at Central Junior High School, has entered the Miss Black Teenage New Mexico Pageant in Roswell on June 16 at 8 00 p m. She will sing for the talent portion and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Hilliard Jr of Lovington.

The Lovington Public Library launches a six week program from June 4 to August 10 with the theme Do Your Own Thing. Young entrants create art essays and poetry based on a local library book and may submit multiple entries across divisions. Each week entries are judged and on awards night a grand winner per division is named.

Gen Haig assists as Mrs Nixon and family join, while Brezhnev’s eight day US visit will include a nationwide speech and a potential Houston Space Center stop.

Lee Hughes 20 was injured Saturday around 3 45 PM in a collision at First Street and Avenue G. He rode a 1973 Honda 750 and struck a 1965 Mercury driven by Augustin Ramos 18 who pulled out after stopping at a stop sign. Hughes was taken to Lovington Lea General Hospital for mouth lacerations and possible leg fracture evaluation.
A total of 101 Lovington Secondary School students earned the fourth nine weeks honor roll with A averages. Seniors include Joe Anderson and Debra Wickham. juniors feature Brian Akin and Steven Franklin. sophomores list Juan Aguilar and Rebecca Bell. ninth graders Katherine Boddy and Teresa Bond. and eighth and seventh graders also noted among the top students.
Eight people died when a car collided broadside with a cattle truck on Interstate 27 south of Plainview Texas. The wreck stranded victims inside the car while a truck driver and another motorist were hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. Firefighters cut free the victims as investigators began to document the crash.
A six foot six, 220 pound man called a gorilla by staff bought three boats for 45000 dollars in cash at Everglades Marina in Fort Lauderdale. He arrived with three women, scattered hundreds of dollars on the water, and left quickly after a 54 minute run to Bimini. Police say no laws were violated and the man’s identity and destination remain unknown.
Barry Watts a sophomore at Eastern New Mexico University has become summer youth director at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church. A Del Norte High School graduate from Albuquerque he is a music education major who plans to teach and may attend seminary after college. His father Bob Watts is minister of education at Hoffman Town Baptist Church.

Lee De-White urges federal review of resource control while backing offshore drilling with environmental safeguards. The 1973 NM law allows state land lease purchases of crude oil and natural gas for resale to local refineries and districts.
