Junior Oddfellows and Theta Rho members plan a chicken barbecue at the IOOF Hall Saturday night to raise funds for delegates attending the joint state assembly in Albuquerque later this month. Funeral services were held at Rest Haven Memorial cemetery for Lorie Diana Sumruld infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Sumruld. Lorie Diana was born June 2 and died the same day. Survivors include her parents two sisters Cindy Barelene and Debra Jane paternal grandmother Mrs George Sumruld Lovington and maternal grandparents Earl Vaughn Tatum. Ed Scharbauer pastor Hillcrest Baptist Church officiated.
Precinct 8 Republicans in Lovington, led by Don Yarbro, are called to a 2 o clock meeting tomorrow to elect delegates for the county convention in Hobbs and the state platform convention. Local GOP leaders aim to consolidate efforts for the Anderson Carter campaign and note the Lovingtonian nominee for the U S Senate vacancy will face Clinton P Anderson in November.

Wage increases averaging 7 cents an hour take effect this week for more than 3,000 workers in the Carlsbad potash basin. Five of seven firms — Duval Corp National Potash Co Potash Co of America Southwest Potash Corp and U S Borax and Chemical Corp — had clauses in contracts from March 1964 extending to June 1967. The remaining two companies also announced new increases.
Gemini 9 astronauts Thomas Stafford and Eugene Cernan blasted off at 9 39 33 a m EDT on their third try to begin a three day mission. Grounded briefly by computer trouble, they received clearance for 15 orbits and headed toward the ATDA target docking adapter with a speed of about 17 500 mph over a 144 to 169 mile altitude band. Cernan’s spacewalk was planned for Saturday morning as mission control reported the go for the first phase of the flight.
Funeral services for M Sam Berry 72 mother of Mrs J W Scott were conducted at First Baptist Church Anson Texas on May 29. Attendees included family from Lovington Hobbs and Coleman County. Berry died after a long illness at 4 local hospital. She came to Texas from Arkansas in 1908 and with her husband married in 1910 lived in Coleman County until 1924 then moved to Anson. Survivors include two sons five daughters a brother three sisters grandchildren and great grandchildren.
