Lea County Commissioners rejected a Monday request to return 258314 of a reported overpayment in revenue sharing funds to the federal government. Rodney Flemmons of 711 W Avenue F won a half a beef in the Little League Association drawing. Other winners were Mark Kennedy who took a hind quarter and Glenn Williams who won a fore quarter. Proceeds from ticket sales will help cover the league's summer expenses.
The General Telephone Company of the Southwest sought a rate reduction from the corporation commission after exceeding the 8.25 cent rate of return. An SCC spokesman said GenTel operated at 9.02 percent, with hearings expected to continue and recessed until fall.

Adams attended a special Lovington city commission session and took his seat and voted, though no member acknowledged his presence. The board continues removal proceedings for malfeasance and an unofficial election will fill the vacated seat, with Adams stating he intends to serve his term.
Robert Harlan Greenlee 69 a Lovington resident for 21 years died Tuesday at Lovington Sea General Hospital after a prolonged illness Born January 1 1904 in Salina Texas he worked as a bookkeeper for Lea County Electric Co Operative later a printer for Office Supply Co retired seven years ago He belonged to Hillcrest Baptist Church Lovington Lodge No 46 Masons and the Lovington Kiwanis Club He is survived by his wife Thelma daughter Mrs Jane Shoemake Tulsa Oklahoma two sons James D Greenlee Broken Arrow OK and Robert H Greenlee II Albuquerque NM three sisters Mrs Lillian Strozier Watonga OK Mrs Cecil Martin Arkadelphia AR and Mrs Aileen Mobley Poteau OK and five grandchildren Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 am at Hillcrest Baptist Church conducted by Rev Ed Scarborough and Rev M V Summers Then the remains will go to Stonewall OK for burial in Highland Cemetery.
At last night’s city commission meeting Glenn Adams sat beside Commissioner Neill Walker. City Secretary Juanice Robinson said she noted four votes from four commissioners and avoided looking at Adams. She remarked that Adams’ voting would not have mattered to the record.
City manager Joe Smith denied a rumor campaign aiming to stop Friday’s election to fill the vacancy from Glenn Adams resignation. He said an election will take place and urged residents not to heed telephone rumors.
