Bro W L Cass has moved to Lovington to lead Northside Baptist Church starting Sunday. He and his wife Dortha reside at 1018 West Gore in the parsonage after arriving yesterday from Grand Falls Texas where he previously pastored. Cass is a Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary graduate with two married sons Don and Joe W Cass living in Marshall and Tyler Texas.
Arreguy Services Pending. Martin Arreguy, 70, a longtime rancher and sheep raiser, died Tuesday at 11 45 a.m. in Lovington General Hospital after five weeks of confinement. Born August 9 1895 in France, he owned a ranch 20 miles northwest of Lovington. Survived by sister Mrs. Catherine Durrell of California and nephew Pierre Arreguy of Santa Maria California. Services pending arrival of relatives from California. Smith Rogers Funeral Home to announce arrangements.
Doyle Roberts reports his dog was bitten by a skunk later found rabid. The skunk head was sent to the New Mexico Public Health Lab and the dog will be destroyed due to no vaccination. This is Lea County 1966 first skunk case and second in a week after a Lovington cat.

UPI reports Lt Gen Walt says Hastings battle yields more than 900 Communist deaths and 1,500 Marines entering the jungle in northwest South Viet Nam. Casualties include 352 Communist dead, 549 probable North Vietnamese. Heavy fighting continues near the Laotian border as U.S. forces push through rugged jungle. American planes fly 96 missions against targets in North Viet Nam.
Harold Earnest Wylie age 46 was found dead in his car a 1964 Pontiac sedan by a motorist. The vehicle was 314 miles north of Hobbs on the Lovington highway and 114 miles east on a county road. Wylie appeared to have been shot in the temple and a .22 caliber derringer was found nearby. An inquest will be set later as the investigation continues.
Don Hines, Lovington Sears manager since September 1964, receives a promotion and will leave Lovington to manage the Sears store in Sulphur Springs Texas. Arval Adkins of Artesia will replace him next week. the Hines family plans to depart around the 28th or 29th of the month.
Hanoi diplomats in Prague and Peking declared the captured American pilots would face trial as criminals rather than prisoners of war. North Vietnam offered no official response to the remarks. President Ho Chi Minh sent a humanitarian note to Norman Thomas referencing enemies captured in war.
Corazon Amarao, the lone survivor of Chicago’s mass nursing home slayings, faced Richard Speck in a hospital room with a doctor. She stayed silent at first, then, when asked, told a police official that that man was the killer. Authorities note she did not reveal a definite recognition in the moment.
Floyd Taff a 23 year old man from Muenster Texas was arrested in Tatum yesterday and held on an AWOL charge by Fort Polk Louisiana authorities.

Cathy Ann Robinson, five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles A Robinson Jr of Hobbs, has joined the 1966 New Mexico Our Little Miss Pageant in the Miss La Petite division. She enjoys dancing and swimming as hobbies. One other entrant is Paula Griffin of Lovington, sponsored by Anthony's.
A local speaker recalls watching a tall television tower near the town edge fall during last spring. He warns that wind conditions here are harsher than engineers expect and recounts his own failed attempts to secure antennas before finally anchoring on a four inch steel pipe buried four feet. He notes many overlook New Mexico wind challenges.
