Authorities in Roswell New Mexico search for a 21 year old Texas man as a suspect in the stabbing death of Laura Lee 22 found dead in her home at 1408 S Holland Roswell. A butcher knife was used in the assault and a magistrate court warrant has been issued.

Cub Scout Pack 9 and families meet in Chaparral Park on Thursday night July 19. Evening starts 7:00 pm with a fishing contest for those arriving at 6:00 pm. Contest closes at 8:00 pm with judging and winner announced. Families bring cake or ice cream and their own dishes and silverware.

United Press International reports four deaths in New Mexico auto wrecks within 24 hours. Victims include John Sarber 15 of Algiers Alabama Cindy Johnson 9 of Egmont College Henry Avila 73 of Belen and Michael Trujillo 7 of rural Belen. Details describe Sarber riding atop a mattress laden roof on a one wheel drive, a wind lift causing a fall near Whites City. Johnson died Friday in an Albuquerque hospital from injuries near Grants on I-40 eight miles east in Valencia County. Kathy Johnson driver of the station wagon remained in serious condition at Bataan Memorial. others had minor injuries at Grants hospital. Mrs Cheryl Nolds 29 Coleman SD noted.
The Lovington city commission calls an unofficial July 27 vote to fill the vacancy created by Glenn Adams resignation. Four commissioners will appoint the winner to serve until March next year, with a regular election later to determine the remainder of Adams term. Residents eligible to file include qualified electors residing in Lovington. Mayor Skalenda and Commissioner Denton face upcoming term expirations.
President Nixon's personal physician reported a very slight improvement in his overall condition at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Doctors noted some clearing of infection on X ray, but confirmed remaining chest pains and fever as he receives antibiotics and rest for several weeks.
Donnie B. Lemmons, 24, a former Holloman Air Force Base airman, confessed to strangling 4 year old Bebey in June 1971 near Dona Ana after authorities linked him to the crime. Dona Ana County DA Ernest Williams said the confession resolves the case though Lemmons faces another murder trial in South Carolina.

The State Personnel Board approved a new salary schedule to raise the minimum monthly state employee pay to per month starting July 1, replacing a $347 per month minimum. The move affects about 9,150 classified employees and adds a 15 cent per hour overtime differential.
