Kenneth O Neal Rucker 26 fled from Lovington to Denver City on State Road 83 at speeds up to 120 mph. Sheriff Bill White said Rucker fired several shots at the pursuing car and passed two roadblocks before finally stopping seven miles north of Hobbs. Rucker faces charges of issuing bogus checks and resisting arrest in Hobbs court.

Funeral arrangements are pending in the Green Chapel of Hobbs for Henry Ray Anderson 14 victim of a scooter car accident just after midnight Saturday. Anderson was a Pap er carrier for the News Sun preparing to deliver papers when the accident occurred returning from the state line where he had filled the scooter tank with gasoline. His father Leon was on a construction job in northern New Mexico and learned of the accident later. Lovington groups mapped a three day October festival from October 9 to 11 to celebrate the town’s half century. H C Pannell led the planning with a detailed calendar and a slogan 58 to mark the event. committees include parade, decorations, merchandise sales, pageants, and a Western dress contest led by local leaders. The Historical Society and Little Theatre will stage school pageants and special assemblies for students. An opening breakfast and Saturday events feature cowboy contests and a bureau of publicity will coordinate newspaper editions.
