Lovington High School basketball enjoyed a strong weekend winning four games in two nights to reach first place in District 4-A. The varsity beat New Mexico Military Institute 88-78, the Jayvees topped NMMI 50-39, and Lovington swept Jal B-teams 45-38 while the Cats defeated the Jay Panthers 98-89.

Las Vegas named 1967 convention site. A nine state regional conference on legal services to the poor was approved for Austin March 24-25 with sponsors including the State Bar of Texas and ABA. Auto hits, second crash follow in Lovington ice spell
In Lovington downtown, a 1964 Oldsmobile parked on Main was struck twice in an hour by passing cars after nighttime ice formed on slick pavement. First, a 1959 Ford driven by James Fitzgerald collided with the Olds, followed by a 1964 Chevrolet driven by Katharine Bolding. A second hit damaged the Olds again, this time by a 1962 Ford driven by Oleta Johnson. Earlier, at Main and Adams, a 1959 Buick station wagon and a 1965 Olds sustained about $850 in damage in a separate collision. No injuries reported as motorists faced ice unseen on darker roads.

Quakes Hit Portion of New Mexico
Three strong earthquakes rattled an 80 mile radius of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado Saturday evening. Officials at the Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory called the quakes the largest regional events since 1963 with no serious injuries or major property damage reported.
