Lovington Aquatic Association will hold its annual meeting Monday at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of Lovington National Bank to elect new board members. Two seats are vacant after resignations by Dr. Herschel Douglas and Dale Saxton. Regular swimming team planning and summer enrollment details will be announced.
Snowfall slowed traffic across Lovington region with slick streets and highways. One jackknifed truck two miles west of Tatum on U S Highway 380 occurred about 8 30 this morning. no injuries reported and State Police investigated the scene.
The forecast shows a return to cold conditions tonight and Thursday with a chance of snow flurries. Lows near 28 degrees tonight and a high around 34 degrees on Thursday.

In New Mexico, an average of 27.73 dollars per acre was paid for 20,042 oil and gas acres. Phillips Petroleum Co. bid 31,190 dollars for 760 acres in Lea County near Lovington. Southland Realty Co. posted the top per acre bid of 100 dollars for 160 Lea County acres near Tatum. Pan-American Oil Co. made the highest oral bid of 67,000 dollars for 680 Lea County acres near Ochoa.
United Press International reports most of New Mexico digs out from the first big storm of 1966 with 4 to 6 inch depths in Santa Fe Socorro and Albuquerque. Snow and treacherous highways stretch state wide while towns report icy windshields and glaze turning to freezing drizzle in southern NM.
Lt J E Polson of the Lovington Police Department was injured last night while descending a four foot ladder. He fell across a chair, injuring his side back and loosening one rib. He is hospitalized at Lea General with painful but not serious injuries and no broken bones found by morning X rays.
The 1966 Farm Program topics include ASCS Committee payment division and compliance. J. W. Gilstrap says the Lea County Co-op will host Monday at 7 p.m. and a second session Thursday January 27 at 7 p.m. Both meetings are open to all interested.
New Mexico Junior College will award the construction contract for its first buildings on the Lowington Highway near Hobbs on February 4 after low bidder J L Brozo Construction of Alamogordo submitted a 1 444 000 offer, 51000 under the next-lowest bid, pending Fort Worth federal approval and bond sale.
Rain touched South Africa hours after a national day of prayer for drought relief. Farmers say showers came too late for withering crops and more rain is urgently needed at the peak of a record heat wave.
Lovington High School graduate Michael J. Binkley leaves Lake Charles for Sardinia to tour Pittsburg Plate Glass plant. The Texas Tech alumnus, a process engineer, plans visits to Rome and Paris during a two week stay in Italy.
