Arizona Prison Escapee Taken By Hobbs Police
Arizona prison escapee Billy Joe Waid age 36 was arrested in Hobbs after a tip linked him to the area. He reportedly had a weapon but offered no resistance and was taken behind a residence by patrolman David Russell. Waid had escaped from the Arizona penitentiary on November 4, 1972 and faced a 20 year to life robbery sentence in Florence. Herman Whitley of Hobbs was also arrested on a fugitive charge. Both remain in Hobbs city jail.

Twelve Hurt As Snow Slows Trucks And Bus Near Carlsbad
Treacherous road conditions on U S 62 180 east of Carlsbad caused a bus two semi trailers and a car to overturn.
