Cargo To Pick Men For Highway Board
Gov. David Cargo said he will submit two nominees for the New Mexico Highway Commission to the Senate in the coming session. He will fill vacancies created by resignations and replace Kenneth Towle of Hobbs and Holm Bursum Jr. of Socorro, named by a majority commission after last year’s resignations. First Samples Taken From Gasbuggy Gas Cavity
Technicians collected six air free gas samples from a cavity created by the Gasbuggy nuclear test 4,240 feet underground near Farmington New Mexico. The samples will be shipped to Livermore for months of lab analysis including radioactivity measurements. The chimney formed Dec 10 from a 26 000 ton high explosive detonation 50 miles east of Farmington.

Santa Fe AP The State Personnel Board approved a policy mandating an eight hour workday and noon hour office operation. Gov. Cargo requested the change after a survey showed many workers logged about seven and a half hours daily, costing the state significant hours with about 10 000 employees.

Ultimatum Issued to Copper Workers in Strike
The United Steelworkers U S A told about 850 copper workers at Locals 625 and 5877 in Baltimore to return to work by Monday or face permanent replacement.
